Roundabout Theatre Company
Program: Access to Arts
Area of Work: Arts
Grant Purpose: Education Programs
Roundabout celebrates the power of theater by spotlighting classics from the past, cultivating new works of the present and educating minds for the future.
Purpose: To support Roundabout’s Access and Education programs.
Roundabout’s education programs provide hands-on learning for disadvantaged students in New York City public schools, career development programs mentoring the next generation of theater artists, technicians and administrators, especially those who would not otherwise be able to afford training, and free or reduced price tickets to low-income New Yorkers.
In 2019, Roundabout education programs served more than 36,000 public school students, educators, community members and patrons. Including close to 4,800 students in partner schools, 1,100 educators, 444 young people in career training programs, and more than 22,000 free or discounted tickets to students and educators. In addition, during the 2019 season, 100% of students who participate in the after school program, Roundabout Youth Ensemble, graduate from high school. 40% of writers were women — more than three times the Broadway average and 1.5 times the national average.
