Center for Arts Education

The Center for Arts Education is committed to ensuring that all New York City public school students receive quality arts instruction as part of their pre-K-12 education.

Purpose: To provide general support

With general operating support from the Illumination Fund, CAE provided underserved public school students, families and school officials with opportunities and information about arts education and the rich arts landscape of NYC; offered resources to the public on comprehensive and accessible arts education; and delivered professional and career development to students and teachers that increases skills and deepens engagement in the arts.

In 2019, CAE served over 15,000 individuals through four programmatic areas: Teaching and Learning, Research, Professional and Career Development, and Public Engagement. All programs benefited a diverse population of New York City public school students (aged 4 – 18), their parents/guardians, educators, and school officials. CAE’s expert staff and CAE Teaching Artists collaborated with school administrators, education officials, and a myriad of cultural organizations to ensure that its programs were comprehensive and adaptable to the needs of the students and families, as well as the teachers and principals served.
