Ashoka invests in a highly selective group of social entrepreneurs each year who become Ashoka Fellows for life. These Fellows grow the visibility and scope of their work through Ashoka’s financial investment and connections to other colleagues and industry leaders. The entrepreneurs work across a wide spectrum of fields, including empathy, health, economic citizenship, and education, and build not only upon their own work, but also upon the base of knowledge in their field.
With support from the Illumination Fund, Ashoka has been able to expand and establish a New York City hub. Our most recent grant has helped to support two New York City based fellows:
- David Flink of Project Eye to Eye, which works with young people with learning disabilities, helping them to overcome stigma and profoundly shift awareness of the issue; and
- Bren Smith of GreenWave, whose team is building a blue-green economy centered on a 3D ocean farm that will restore oceans and re-invent the fishing profession.
