Exhibit opening of Intersections: Art and Community at the JCC in Manhattan

On Tuesday November 13, the Illumination Fund welcomed guests for the opening of our exhibit Intersections: Art and Community at the JCC in ManhattanIntersectionsfeatures select works by artists Gabriel Specter, Lori Grinker, Siona Benjamin and Jacqueline Nicholls, each of whom has presented solo exhibitions at the JCC’s Laurie M. Tisch Gallery that address themes related to identity, community and art.  The diversity of the work represented in Intersections illustrates the impressive roster of artists who have exhibited at the JCC’s gallery and the dose of culture made so easily accessible to its visitors.

Laurie Tisch discussed the mission-driven purpose of the Illumination Fund’s gallery and collection, and Rabbi Joy Levitt, Executive Director of the JCC in Manhattan, shared her thoughts on the importance of art in the community.  Exhibiting artists Siona Benjamin, Lori Grinker, and Gabriel Specter joined the reception and each spoke about the creative process and inspiration behind their work.

The Illumination Fund gratefully acknowledges the JCC’s Laurie M. Tisch Gallery Director and Intersection’s curator, Megan Whitman.
