Billie Jean King, a tennis icon and humanitarian, received the Preston Robert Tisch Award in Civic Leadership at the Asia Society in conjunction with The Aspen Institute. The annual award is funded by the family of the late Preston Robert Tisch to carry on his legacy of public service and philanthropy. King, who is the founder of the Women’s Sports Foundation and co-founder of World Team Tennis, spoke at the award ceremony with Christine Brennan, a leading sports columnist with USA Today. King and Brennan spoke about issues of gender, equality, courage, and teambuilding, as well as about tennis – past, present, and future. King designated the prize money to the John and Patty McEnroe Foundation.
